Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted at age 33 in Charlotte, NC in Company E, 6th North Carolina Infantry on 28 May 1861. Transferred to Company D in June 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

Wounded in action at Gettysburg, PA on 2July 1863, and captured at the hospital there. He was held in the West's Building Hospital, Baltimore, MD, then paroled and exchanged at City Point, VA on 17 November 1863. He retired to the Invalid Corps on 25 October 1864, assigned to posts at Salisbury, NC, then with the Army of Northern Virginia. He was captured 22 April 1865 in a hospital in Richmond, VA at War's end.

After the War

He moved with his family to Texas in 1880.
