From Johnston County, he enlisted at age 31 in Charlotte, NC in Company E, 6th North Carolina Infantry on 28 May 1861. He was appointed Corporal 20 June, but reduced to Private again on 30 June 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was listed as present or accounted for through August 1864.
