Before Sharpsburg
A farmer, he enlisted at age 24 in Alamance County, NC in Company E, 6th North Carolina Infantry on 15 June 1861. He was appointed Corporal 17 June 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was promoted to Sergeant on 1 February 1863, then First Sergeant (date not given). He was mortally wounded in action at Gettysburg, PA on 1 July 1863 and died between 3 and 6 July.
