He enlisted in Burke County, NC in Company E, 6th North Carolina Infantry on 16 August 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was listed as a deserter 23 July 1863 and was captured at Chambersburg, PA 8 August 1864. He was held at Ft. Mifflin, PA until released 2 September 1864 after taking the Oath of Allegiance.
