Before Sharpsburg
Age 23, from Davidson County, he was conscripted and enlisted in Davidson County on 8 August 1862 as a Private in Company D, 48th North Carolina Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He received back pay from 8 July on 7 November, but died of wounds and illness on 12 November 1862 in the CS General Hospital in Staunton, VA.
