Age 31, from Davidson County, he was conscripted and enlisted there as a Private in Company G, 48th North Carolina Infantry on 14 August 1862.

He was reported missing in action on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died on 15 December 1862 of disease at Fredericksburg, VA. His widow "Barbray Carter" applied for his final pay in August 1863.
