Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 24 year old farmer at Fayetteville in Fayette County, GA. He enrolled as 2nd Lieutenant of Company E, 27th Georgia Infantry on 9 August 1861 and was elected Captain on 20 December 1861.
On the Campaign
He succeeded to command of the regiment as next senior officer when Lieutenant Colonel Zachry was wounded on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to Pettigrew General Hospital #13, at Raleigh, N. C. in 1864 and returned to duty 21 May 1864 and was elected Major of the regiment on 24 June 1864. He was wounded in the thigh at Bentonville, NC on 18 March 1865 and died of his wounds on 6 April.
