Before Antietam

In 1860 he was 25 years old and lived on his parent's farm in Wilton, ME. He enlisted at Lewiston on 29 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company B, 7th Maine Infantry on 21 August 1861.

On the Campaign

He was severely wounded in the leg in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was discharged for disability on 19 January 1863.
