Before Antietam

He graduated from the Berwick Academy in 1856. From South Berwick, by then age 20, he mustered as Sergeant, Company F, 7th Maine Infantry on 21 August 1861. He transferred to Company D when "F" was disbanded, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was wounded and captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam, although thought to have been killed.

The rest of the War

He was back with his Company by 1864 and mustered out that year at the expiration of his term of service.

After the War

He was living in South Berwick to at least 1873, then in Peabody, MA by 1893 and was listed as a mail carrier there.

He married Fanny E. Doherty (1848-1922) in 1868 and they had three children together.
