In 1860 he was a 17 year old farmhand living with his parents and siblings in Winslow, ME. He enlisted on 5 August 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company E, 7th Maine Infantry on 21 August 1861.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.
