Before Antietam
In 1860 he was a 34 year old farmer at Pittsfield, ME. He enlisted on 13 August 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company E, 7th Maine Infantry on 21 August 1861.
On the Campaign
He was severely wounded by a gunshot to his foot in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 29 September and sent back to his unit on 4 December 1862. He transferred to Company K, date not given, and was discharged for disability on 26 February (or 9 April) 1863.
After the War
By 1870 and to at least 1880 he was a farmer at Brighton, ME.
