Before Antietam
A 44 year old laborer from Portland, ME, he enlisted on 15 January 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company G, 7th Maine Infantry on 28 January 1862.
On the Campaign
He was severely wounded by a gunshot to his elbow in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was transferred to Company F, date not given. He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 29 September and his left arm was amputated on 6 October 1862 by Surgeon Alfred Ball, 5th Ohio Infantry. He was transferred to General Hospital #1 in Frederick on 9 February 1863 and on to a hospital in Baltimore on 12 June. He was discharged for disability on 7 November 1863.
