In 1860 he was 15 years old and lived with his parents and siblings in Bowdinham, ME. He enlisted and mustered at 16 (giving his age as 18) on 22 August 1861 as a Private in Company K, 7th Maine Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
