Age 19, a seaman from Tremott, ME, he enlisted on 19 May 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company B, 12th Massachusetts Infantry on 26 June 1861 at Fort Warren, Boston.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
