A 24 year old laborer from Lexington, he enlisted in Company E, 12th Massachusetts Infantry on 26 June 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He was again wounded, in action at Fredericksburg, VA on 13 December 1862. He was appointed Corporal, date not given, and mustered out with his Company on 8 July 1864.
