He was wounded in action - in the ankle and leg - on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was at Camp Curtin, Harrisburg by 22 September. Discharged for wounds 24 January 1863. Served as an officer in the US Navy, being appointed Acting 3rd Assistant Engineer on 17 August 1863. Served on Receiving Ship Ohio and USS Wateree, Pacific Squadron. Discharged 3 December 1865.
