He enlisted as a Private in Company A, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 at Griffin, GA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the leg in action at Boteler's Ford near Shepherdstown, VA on 20 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in a hospital in Richmond, VA by 14 October with "debility" and returned to duty on 28 October (or 19 November) 1862. He was in hospitals again in May 1863, for pneumonia, and in June 1864 for acute diarrhea. He was listed as a deserter on 3 December 1864 and was paroled at Winchester, VA on 19 April 1865.
