In 1860 he was a 19 year old worker on his father's farm near Sandy Ridge in Henry County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company C, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 at Griffin, GA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of smallpox in a Staunton, VA hospital on 21 December 1862. His father Joseph Madison Edge (1811-1888) filed a claim for his final pay of $157.26 in September 1863.
