In 1860 he was a 22 year old overseer on his parent's large farm near Thomaston in Upson County, GA. He enlisted in Griffin, GA on 8 July 1861 as a Sergeant in Company D, 13th Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His father Benjamin filed a claim for his final pay of $152.63 in December 1862.
