Confederate (CSV)

Private

James Marion Martin

(1839 - 1923)

Home State: Georgia

Branch of Service: Infantry

Unit: 13th Georgia Infantry

Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted as a Private in Company G, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 in Griffin, GA.

On the Campaign

He may have been in Maryland in 1862 (he's included here because was probably mis-identified as a man mortally wounded at Sharpsburg).

The rest of the War

He was wounded near Fredericksburg, VA on about 1 May 1863 and again at Spotsylvania Court House, VA in May 1864. He was in hospitals and on furlough afterward until retired to the Invalid Corps at Cuthbert, GA on 16 February 1865.

References & notes

His service from Henderson,1 as J. Marion Martin, and his Compiled Service Records,2 online from fold3. Henderson also lists a Marion Martin, Company F, mortally wounded at Sharpsburg and died in 1862, but there is no mention of him in the CSRs. I believe he's the same man as J. Marion Martin, and obviously did not die in 1862. His gravesite is on Findagrave.
