Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 21 year old druggist at Octavia in Early County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company G, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 in Griffin, GA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, and captured, at Monocacy Junction near Frederick, MD on 10 July 1864. He was in the West's Buildings Hospital in Baltimore to 19 November, then transferred to Fort McHenry. He was sent to Point Lookout, MD on 2 January 1865 and was exchanged there on 14 March 1865.

After the War

In 1870 he was a grocer at Elkton in Todd County, KY, but by 1880 he was county surveyor in Cleburne, Johnson County, TX. By 1895 he was with the First National Bank in Cleburne.

He married Sarah Elizabeth Perry (1847-1920) and they had 4 children between 1867 - 1887.
