Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was an 18 year old shoemaker and son of a shoemaker at Octavia in Early County, GA. He enlisted as a Sergeant in Company G, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 in Griffin, GA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was mortally wounded at Gettysburg, PA on 1 July 1863, and captured there. He died of wounds on 10 July 1863 in a US Amy field hospital in Gettysburg. His father James made a claim for his final pay in December 1863.
