In 1860 he was a 19 year old worker on his parent's small farm in Terrell County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company H, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 in Griffin, GA. He was wounded at Second Manassas, VA on 30 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His mother Jane F Powell applied for his final pay in October 1862.
