In 1860 he was a 20 year old worker on his mother's farm at Griffin in Spalding County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company I, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 in Griffin.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds in Winchester, VA on 12 October 1862. His mother Malinda filed for his final pay of $84.40 in May 1863.
