Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 20 year old living with his mother and brother in Griffin, Spalding, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company I, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 in Griffin, GA. He was appointed First Sergeant of his Company, date not given, but was sick in hospitals in Danville and Winchester, VA in August 1862. He returned to duty on 8 September.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His mother Sylvia filed for his final pay in October 1862.
