Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 21 year old farmer on his parent's substantial place near Rough Edge, Troup County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company K, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 at Griffin, GA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the right foot in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was paroled near Shepherdstown, VA on 29 September 1862. He served with his Company through the war and was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.

After the War

By 1870 he was again farming with his parents and siblings in Troup County but was farming on his own in Meriwether County, GA by 1880.
