Before Sharpsburg

Pre-War Profession: Lawyer and state's attorney. In 1861 he recruited the 1st Maryland (CSA), and was elected Major, seeing action at First Manassas. In March 1862 he was appointed Colonel, and led his Regiment on Jackson's Shenandoah Valley campaign, at the Seven Days, at Cedar Mountain, and on the Second Manassas campaign.

On the Campaign

He commanded Jones' Brigade of Jackson's Division (wounded and relieved?).

The rest of the War

In June 1864 he wsa promoted to Brigadier General and commanded W E Jones' Cavalry Brigade in Early's Washington raid executed the order to burn Chambersburg was on the Shenandoah Valley campaign and served on prison duty.

After the War

He continued his career as a lawyer and was a politician and writer.
