Before Antietam

Age 18, he enlisted at Hamilton for three years and mustered as Private, Company C, 61st New York Infantry on 18 September 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to Corporal on 30 March 1863, reenlisted in December, and was promoted to Sergeant on 1 March 1864. He mustered out with his Company on 14 July 1865 near Washington, DC.

After the War

He moved to Black Hawk County, IA in 1872 and farmed there. He died relatively young, of pneumonia, in 1882.
