Before Antietam
Age 24, he enlisted on 3 September 1861 in New York City for three years, and he mustered as a Corporal in Company H, 61st NY Infantry on 4 November.
On the Campaign
He was wounded by a gunshot to his left hip in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to US Army General Hospital #5 in Frederick, MD on 22 September and sent on to Washington, DC on 27 September. He was promoted to Sergeant on 10 October 1862 but was still in a hospital in Washington, DC to about April 1863. He was discharged for disability in March or April 1864 in Washington, DC.
After the War
He was living at 27 Morton Street in the Greenwich Village section of New York City at the Veteran Census of June 1890.
