Commissioned 1st Lieutenant and Adjutant of the 13th NJ Infantry on 22 August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was adjutant of the regiment on the Maryland Campaign.
The rest of the War
Promoted Captain, Company K on 18 January 1863. He was honored by brevet to Major, USV, on 13 March 1865 "for gallant and distinguished services in the field."
