He enlisted in Company A, 13th New Jersey Infantry on 7 August 1862 and mustered as Corporal on 25 August.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the foot in action on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at hospitals in Frederick, MD and Philadelphia, PA. He was discharged for wounds at Convalescent Camp, Alexandria, VA on 10 February 1863.
