He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

He was discharged for wounds at Summit Hill US Army General Hospital, Philadelphia, PA on 20 January 1863.

After the War

He received a US Patent in 1897 for a pedal operated 3-wheeled street sweeper.
