Before Antietam

He enlisted in Company D, 13th New Jersey Infantry at age 22 on 7 August 1862 and mustered as Private on 25 August.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by gunshot to the left knee in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He was treated in hospitals in Frederick, MD, Chester, PA, and Newark, NJ. He returned to his Company on 10 April 1863 in Virginia, but was again hospitalized, in Alexandria, VA. He transferred to Company D, 12th Regiment, Veteran Reserve Corps on 1 September 1863, and was discharged on 28 June 1865.
