Age 20, he enlisted in Mt. Pleasant on 21 June 1861 and mustered into service as a Private in Company H, 28th Pennsylvania Infantry on 28 June in Philadelphia. He transferred to Company B on 12 July 1761.

On the Campaign

He died of heart disease on 2 November 1862 at Hagerstown, MD.
