A 21 year old blacksmith' apprentice in Philadelphia, he enlisted there on 6 June 1861 and mustered into service as a Private in Company D, 28th Pennsylvania Infantry on 6 July in Philadelphia.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action on 17 September 1862.
