Age 19, he enlisted in Philadelphia on 16 July 1861 and mustered into service as a Private in Company D, 28th Pennsylvania Infantry the same day.

On the Campaign

He died of pneumonia in camp on Bolivar Heights, VA on 18 November 1862.
