Age 20, he enlisted in Coalmont and mustered into service as a Private in Company O, 28th Pennsylvania Infantry on 23 August 1861 in Philadelphia.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in the arm in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds on 19 October 1862 in Harpers Ferry, VA.
