Before Antietam

He came to New York City from England with his family in 1851 at about age 13, and he was living with them in Columbia, Herkimer County, NY by 1855.

On 1 May 1861, by then a 23 year old carpenter in Cooperstown, NY, he enlisted in Columbia and mustered as Private, Company F, 34th New York Infantry on 15 June. He was promoted to Corporal, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
