Confederate (CSA)

Captain

Pichegru Woolfolk, Jr.

(1830 - 1870)

Home State: Virginia

Command Billet: Battery Commander

Branch of Service: Artillery

Unit: Ashland (VA) Artillery

Before Sharpsburg

He was Captain of the Ashland Artillery from it's organization in August 1861 through the end of the War.

The rest of the War

He was with his battery at Fredericksburg (December 1862) and Chancellorsville (May 1863). Before Gettysburg (July 1863), due to a disagreement about precedence on the march, he was challenged to a duel with rifles by Capt Moody. The battle interrupted the planned duel, and it did not take place - apparently Moody and Woolfolk never again met face to face. Captain Woolfolk was reported wounded at Gettysburg.

He was with Longstreet's Corps in the Army of Tennessee later in 1863 on the Chatanooga and Nashville Campaigns. Woolfolk and the battery returned with Longstreet to the Army of Northern Virginia, and were at Cold Harbor, Petersburg, and Sayler's Creek.
