Before Antietam

Age 20, he enlisted on Long Island, NY, and mustered in as a Private in Company D, 42nd New York Infantry on 22 June 1861 and transferred to Company G the next day.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 24 September with a fracture and sent on to Baltimore on 21 April 1863. He was in a hospital recovering to at least August 1863. He was transferred Company C of the 82nd New York Infantry on 28 June 1864 while still absent, wounded. He was in Company D, 10th Regiment, Veteran Reserve Corps 1 July to 1 October 1865.
