Age 31, he enlisted on Long Island, NY and mustered in as a Private in Company A, 42nd New York Infantry on 22 June 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was wounded again, on 3 July 1863 at Gettysburg, PA. He mustered out with his Company on 13 July 1864 in New York City.
