He enlisted as Sergeant in Company E, 72nd Pennsylvania Infantry on 10 August 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He died at a hospital in Hagerstown, MD on 25 September 1862. He was initially buried in a plot near the Alms House in Hagerstown.
