He enlisted at age 23 on 5 November 1861 in New York City, and mustered in as Private, Company K, 59th New York Infantry on 22 November.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He was paroled (date unknown), and transferred to Company A on 25 June 1863. He was wounded 2 July 1863 in action at Gettysburg, PA, and died of wounds 6 July 1863 in Gettysburg.
