Before Antietam

Age 21, he enlisted on 16 September in Putnam County and mustered as Private, Company I, 59th New York Infantry on 24 October. He was probably promoted to Sergeant, date not known.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded by a gunshot to his hip and bladder in action on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at a field hospital on the Hoffman Farm near Sharpsburg and admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 27 September 1862, but he died there on 8 March 1863. His body was taken home by relatives.
