Age 21, he enlisted in Henrico County on 23 April 1861 as Private, Company A, 15th Virginia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded by a gunshot in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds in Staunton, VA on 15 November 1862.
