Before Sharpsburg
He was a private in the 1st South Carolina Infantry in early 1861, then Captain of Company E of the 4th South Carolina Infantry. That unit became Company B of the Palmetto Sharpshooters in May 1862.
On the Campaign
He commanded the regiment as senior officer after Captain Foster was wounded.
The rest of the War
He was promoted to Major, then Colonel, dates not given, but was killed in action on 28 October 1863 at Wauhatchie, Tennessee.
