Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 15 year old farmm boy on his parents Alexander and Holinda (Faires) Wiley's place near Bluff Springs, Talladega County, AL. He enlisted as a Private in Company I, 14th Alabama Infantry on 29 July 1861 at Lineville in Talladega County. He was wounded by a gunshot to his knee near Richmond, VA on 1 or 2 July 1862 and returned to duty on 9 July.

On the Campaign

He was "severely wounded" in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and "left on the field."

The rest of the War

His records to June 1863 have him still absent after Sharpsburg. The roll for October 1863 has him missing since Gettysburg, with no later military record.
