Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 20 year old farmer on his parent's substantial place at Marion in Perry County, AL. He enlisted as a Private in Company G (later renamed F), 5th Alabama Infantry on 10 April 1861 in Cahaba, AL. He was wounded at Seven Pines, VA in June 1862 and furloughed home.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds on 19 September 1862 at a field hospital near Sharpsburg. His father Abram filed for his final pay of $206.46 on 10 April 1863 and received payment in September 1864.
