In 1860 he was a 24 year old farm worker at Millwood in Dooly County, GA. He enlisted, with his brother James (1839-1888), as a Private in Company I, 18th Georgia Infantry on 22 June 1861 at Camp McDonald, Kennesaw, GA.

On the Campaign

He was reported missing in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 with no later military or civil record, and was probably killed there.
