Wounded in left hand, necessitating amputation of finger, and through shoulder and bowels, at Chancellorsville, Virginia May 3, 1863. Elected Lieutenant Colonel May 15, 1863. Resigned on account of wounds January 20, 1864.
Appointed Colonel of the 5th Regiment Georgia State Forces in spring of 1864; Brigadier General Georgia State Forces July 1864. Surrendered April 1865.
